filmed talks

2015-2016
SHOT ON: 5D MKIII, 5D MKII | LOCATION: SYDNEY, AUSTRALIA | CLIENT: FROST COLLECTIVE

A series of Ninja Talk Series for Frost Collective

Frost approached us to help them film an in-house Ted Talk style filmed live event series featuring designers and creatives. They wanted the filmed talks to be captured for people who couldn’t attend the event and to help encourage new audiences to join in.

We shoot the filmed talks series each month using two cameras on a close and a wide shot. This coverage means that we can show the presentation on the screen, which can become very relevant when the speaker makes direct reference to something in their talk. Because the talks are attended and given for free – our budget is very limited which means that our shoot and edit has to be extremely efficient to work.

Shooting filmed talks can be deceptively tricky and this is intensified when operating multiple cameras solo as Amber Todd does for the series. Often the speaker is moving about freely which can make focus a challenge when operating two cameras. We are also limited to shooting in available light only which means that the brightly lit screen can create exposure issues. Sometimes it is possible to mask out the screen in After Effects and directly insert the graphics from the presentation and we do this where we can but post-production needs to be completed as swiftly as possible in order to get the finished video out to the public as soon as possible.
